...at the nearby Sri Surabhi Kunja, where Srila Bhaktivinoda
Thakur stayed in earlier days. It is understood that it is from here
he had the revelatory darshan of the Appearance Place of Nimai Pandit
across the Saraswati River (also known locally as the Jalangi River)
in Mayapur.
The sign on the wall describes some of the glories of this place: that Indra's cow, Surabhi, did her bhajan here and Indra too, and Markendeya Rishi engaged in bhajan here at the time of the inundation (as described in Sri Nabadwip Dham Mahatmya), and Nityananda Prabhu made His Nama-hatta main centre here. Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur engaged in bhajan at this place, and later when he was showing somewhat advanced age he went to Swananda Sukhada Kunja. Indeed, a special place to end a special day for all the devotees of the Sri Gaudiya Missions. |
